MegaETH Farming #1: Why I'm Farming the Real-Time Blockchain
Gas is free. Transactions are instant. There might be an airdrop.
That’s MegaETH in a nutshell — and why I’ve spent the last two weeks interacting with 16+ protocols on this chain.
This is Part 1 of a series where I document my entire MegaETH farming strategy: setup, bridging, and one protocol at a time.
What is MegaETH?
MegaETH is a new EVM-compatible blockchain that calls itself “the first real-time blockchain.” The key selling points:
- Real-time execution — Block times measured in milliseconds, not seconds
- Gas is free — During this testnet/mainnet hybrid phase
- Local-first — Designed for applications that need instant feedback
It’s not fully mainnet yet — it’s in this weird liminal state where real value exists (you can bridge real ETH) but gas costs are subsidized. That creates an interesting opportunity.
The Opportunity: Potential Airdrop
MegaETH has a token (TGE = Token Generation Event) coming. The triggers:
- $500M USDM in circulation, OR
- 10 apps launched, OR
- 3 apps earning $50K+/month
Currently sitting at ~5 “Mafia apps” (per @waleswoosh). Not there yet, but growing.
The bet: early activity might get rewarded. Not guaranteed, but with free gas, the cost of being wrong is near zero.
My Strategy
I’m not trying to game one protocol or maximize volume. Instead:
- Diverse interactions — Touch as many protocols as possible
- Small amounts — Keep risk low while establishing usage patterns
- Document everything — Build a track record (and content)
- Wait — Airdrops take months, sometimes years
Total deployed: ~$77 (bridged from Arbitrum)
Current count: 16 protocols
What I’ve Done So Far
| Protocol | Type | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Avon Finance | MegaVault deposit | $9.21 USDm |
| Aave V3 | Supply | $5 USDT0 |
| Canonic | CLP Vault (LP) | $3.94 (USDT0/USDm) |
| SIR Trading | LP deposit | $2 USDm |
| Gains Network | Perps long | $2 USDm collateral |
| WarpX | Swap | $1 USDT0 → USDm |
| Prism | Swap | $1 USDm → USDT0 |
| + 9 more | Various | Small positions |
Plus a free NFT mint (Block Zero), an on-chain RPG character, and a bunch of swaps across DEXes.
What’s Coming in This Series
- Part 2: How I bridged funds from ETH mainnet (with scripts)
- Part 3: Avon Finance MegaVault — 3x points boost
- Part 4: Aave V3 on MegaETH — earning yield
- Part 5: Canonic CLP Vaults — LP strategy
- Parts 6+: One protocol per post until I run out
Each post will include:
- What the protocol does
- Why I chose it
- Step-by-step setup
- Transaction receipts
- Risk assessment
The Thesis
MegaETH is trying to be the blockchain where real-time apps make sense. Gaming, high-frequency trading, social apps — things that feel laggy on other chains.
If they pull it off, early users might be rewarded. If not, I’m out ~$77 and some time.
Either way, I’m learning DeFi, building tools, and documenting the process. That’s worth something even without an airdrop.
